Essay on Who Do You Love - 1022 Words

Rock roll music rose out of the chaos and rebellion found in the 1960s. From the Civil Rights Movement, to Women’s Rights, and the Vietnam War, the 1960s was filled with protests, rallies, and concerts. The music reflected the young, rebellious attitude that grew throughout the decade. Rock roll music originated in the 1950s, when Bo Diddley contributed to its success and evolution. He played a large role in finding the crossover from blues to rock roll, inspiring many rock roll acts. Famous elements of rock music can be traced back to Bo Diddley and his well-known song â€Å"Who Do You Love.† The band, Quicksilver Messenger Service did a cover of this song, making it fit their original style but still respecting Diddley’s music. This†¦show more content†¦It is 30 seconds filled with fast tempo riffs and alternate guitar picking. Diddley also adds excitement to the song by slightly distorting the sound of the electric guitar by bending the strings a nd using different rhythms from jazz and swing. These sounds show up in the QMS version of the song where they experiment with bending of the guitar, hard-core riffs, and dynamics often associated with rock roll music. Music was going through a transition at this time, leading up to the end of the 1960s when music and the counterculture movement were in the headlines. With Woodstock in the works and people getting really excited about music, acid rock took the stage. Quicksilver Messenger Service was able to take the song â€Å"Who Do You Love† and create 25 minutes of crazy psychedelic rock. It is all about the music now. This rendition of the song does not include much singing, but incorporates so many different weird sounds from the guitar and drums. The song is split up into six parts, each showcasing a different style or instrumental solo. The first few seconds of the song are filled with low guitar bending and vibrato, speeding up to be a straightforward interpretation of the original song in the blues and hard rock style of QMS. This first part of the song called â€Å"Who Do You Love (Part 1)† contains little distortion and guitar riffs but is really just a preview for the res t of the song.
